So, yesterday, I went on a marathon, watching Amaburi(Amagi Brilliant Park), watching the full 13 episodes in the same day. But I'm not here to talk about my accomplishment, because it's a pretty mediocre one, I'm here to talk about the Anime.
The plot is about a boy in his High-School years who is very charming, smart and athletic, a straight A in School basically, and a very beautiful girl forces him to go out on a date, to visit an amusement park. The amusement park looks to be horrible, with the place being completely destroyed, a complete chaos! Employees are not motivated, the amusements are not very amusing, and the manager doesn't know what to do. On top of this they have to reach a goal of 500,000 visitors in a deadline of 4 months.
Sounds pretty generic right? A guy who's close to perfection, if not perfect, and a hot girl who's there to keep a male audience attached. Well...
The guy is named Seiya Kanie, although it may seem I described him as a perfect main character, he's not really popular, he has a very short nerve, and mocks the people around him for not being smart or making the right decisions, or even understanding certain things. He also is very arrogant, as he always addresses himself as being perfect and, one would say, flawless.
So Kanie, after visiting the whole park, was presented to the Boss, Latifa, who's a 14 year old girl, who by the way, is a princess of a magical land called Maple Land. Initially, Kanie refuses, because knowing the goal and seeing the state of the park, he claimed it as impossible, but, for some reason, Kanie comes back and decides to help them. He is given this special power that let's him read minds, and it's never talked again, up until the last episodes, for I don't know why.
The park's employees are mainly fairies/mascots from this magical land, which brings a lot of silliness to the show, which is not bad, since it's a comedy.
They try to give every character their kind of spotlight, which is amazing, because it's about getting the park into place, and watching how do they progress from nothing to their goal, and it's done really well, up to the point, that you get to understand the personalities of the secondary roles in just an episode.
Although, I must say that from out of all the mascots, Moffle probably gets the most screen time, and is probably the best mascot, or the most interesting one. Because he begins from hating this "kid" who becomes manager, to like/support him on his decisions, throughout the series.
He's also very protective of Princess Latifa, who's his niece, so he's got a very good reason to be protective.
The most interesting part is, of course, Kanie and Sento, Sento being the girl that I've early spoke about, she's from a military family, and carries a gun around, usually stops the fights between Kanie and Moffle in a comedic way. But the thing about Kanie and Sento is that they show subtle romance throughout the series, although nothing is ever really that serious, nothing is really certain, just a few face expressions, mainly at the end.
The Scenes with the Princess, are somewhat the less interesting, but also the ones who usually open more development to the series. Part of the reason why, most likely there will be a Season 2, is that episode where it's explained that Latifa is cursed. Still not entirely sure if in the end they broke the curse, but that surely hints for a second season, to which I don't mind, I just think they will need to work on some points, if they are really doing a second season for this show. Or else it will become boring
Enough of the plot and characters, let's talk about the Animation on this Anime. I think it was decent, not great, not bad, there could of been parts where they could have animated things clearer than they did. But it's not really something I usually tend to mind that much anyways, since I'm in it for the plot and for the actual development of the characters. Animation is important, yes, but right now it doesn't seem to be a relative factor to discuss about, since pretty much every Anime is doing either decent or great on their animation field.
The OST for this Anime was good, I really love
Solitude, it's a nice piece of OST, but for the Opening and Ending, I must say, I didn't like it, but I rarely do like Openings and Endings (usually skipping them throughout the whole series). I really think the OST throughout the episodes was a really important factor in some, if not, many, scenes.
For personal enjoyment, I enjoyed the series, it wasn't boring, it was silly and weird at times, yes, but in a comedic way. The only thing that is really weird is how can 2 high-school students manage an Amusement Park, without falling short on school, or at least that's not even mentioned. It looks like they don't even go to school, although they really do. I know that the main focus was the Park, but still... Weird.
I rate it a 7.30/10. It's a nice Anime, but it's not unique within the genre, nor does it need to be, as long as it's beautiful in it's own way. I recommend it for people who are looking to occupy their time watching a laid back Anime, because at the end of the day, it's what it really is. Subtle Romance, silly Magical Powers, and a Whole Lotta Work in an Amusement Park.
Eximius out!
